What the photo checker looks at

Each check is reported as pass, warning, or fail, with a plain explanation of what to fix.

  • One face detected — Exactly one clearly visible face — no group photos or a second person in frame.
  • Face size — Your face is large enough in the picture to be cropped to the document’s required head size.
  • Face centered — Your face sits near the horizontal center of the photo.
  • Head angle — Your head is upright rather than tilted.
  • Eyes visible — Both eyes are clearly detected, not hidden by hair, glare, or shadow.
  • Image resolution — The uploaded picture has enough pixels to produce the required output size.
  • Lighting — The photo is neither too dark nor overexposed.
  • Color balance — A best-effort check for a strong color cast over the image.
  • Sharpness — A best-effort check that the photo is not blurry.
  • Background — A best-effort check that the background looks plain and evenly lit.
